Teaching Evaluations

Below is a sampling of student comments from my teaching evaluations at the University of Florida. Please note that in all classes, I was the Instructor of Record. For additional information regarding my student evaluations, please feel free to email me at aslotkin@ufl.edu.

“Mr. Slotkin's enthusiasm for writing and willingness to help greatly contributed to my learning in this course. He always asks if the class has any questions and gives us time comprehend the topics taught in class and the assignments that are due. He makes the path easy and clear for anybody who wants to excel in his class.”

“Alexander has been one of my favorite professors at UF. Not only does he demonstrate a clear passion for what he is teaching but he does a great job of showing that he cares for his students by giving every assignment thorough feedback and fostering an environment of honesty and communication throughout his class.”

“Mr. Slotkin helped students to achieve their maximum potential, with his honest grading style, open communication via Zoom and personal meetings, and many opportunities for students to revise their work. He explained new concepts thoroughly, and when he knew the class wasn't getting it, devised ways to help everyone better understand. He truly cares about his students. His ultimate goal is to make students better writers in not just their academic career, but in the real world.”

“Mr. Slotkin is both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this course. As a student, it feels like he cares deeply about his students growing both academically and personally, which is greatly appreciated. He was flexible with schedules and due dates and fitting them to what works best for his students, which is surprisingly uncommon in the college world. He asked for feedback throughout the course, something that I wish more instructors would implement while teaching. Although this class was taken solely to fulfill a words requirement, I feel very strongly that the skills we have developed throughout this course will actually be beneficial to me outside of the classroom and in my daily life.”

“Best instructor I've had at UF. Shows that he cares about students by provided very detailed feedback to our work. Always kind and understanding. Not an easy grader but is very reasonable which helped me to learn as much as I could. Providing the extra credit reflections helped the learning process. I also appreciate that he doesn't assign ‘busy work’ and keeps every class period productive. His mindset about teaching is admirable.”

“I love professor Slotkin! He is probably the best professor I've had in college. He is always so helpful, very easy to talk to, and genuinely cares about his students. All of the assignments I felt were relevant to real life papers I may have to write, so I felt no assignment was a waste of my time. All of his expectations were clearly laid out and his communication with students is impeccable. I wish every professor could be like him. I felt like he truly cared about his connection to students as well. He would ask us how our day was going and was very flexible with the course schedule if things needed to be adjusted. His communication with students allowed me to understand every assignment and what was expected.”

“Mr. Slotkin was talented at breaking down the structures of different types of papers without turning them formulaic. He explained things clearly and simplistically, which aided in my understanding of the topics. He also was open to non–traditional assignments or branching off to applications outside of the class which kept my interest in a normally dry subject.”

- Anonymous Student Reviewer, ENC 1101: Expository and Argumentative Writing, Spring 2020

“Mr. Slotkin was very friendly, engaging, and entertaining. He did a really good job of encouraging all students to participate. It was apparent that he was very passionate about the subject. He was always prepared. He was easily accessible and was always willing to help his students. He was a very fair grader. I typically dread coming to class, because I have had a lot of instructors who read off powerpoints, and it is incredibly painful to get through and I am always more efficient on my own. Although, coming to this class was a breeze, and I would have been upset with myself if I didn't come because we got THAT much done. This instructor went over and above all of my expectations. He is also just a really great person.”
